This is just plain sad sad sad sad. Why the hell do I keep letting OpenZaurus smack me around like I'm some dopey dumb cartoon character.

I've been running the latest OZ the last 4 days, but sadly I'm going back to the stock ROM. There's still no backup application. There's an application which backs up your settings and configurations, but no actual utility that backs up everything within memory. Sad. I was going to attempt to periodically backup the whole Zaurus by just shelling in and tar'ing every bit of info, but I got fed up when, after finally getting the wifi card working, I found that Konqueror wouldn't install. I tried 5 different versions and installed three different ways: using the .ipk package utility, I installed to the CF card, the SD card, and the Zaurus' RAM. None of these worked. Guess what? That means I cannot browse the internet. But there's Opera? NOT! There are supposedly scripts that will remove Opera from the OSROM (stock Sharp ROM) but the file maintainer has pulled them from his site. I've searched the internet, searching for anyone who may have a copy of those scripts but didn't have any luck. And, hell no, I'm not using Lynx or any other text-based browser.

I'm about fed up. I figured I could stick with the inadequacies of OZ for a bit but I'm so damn irritated now that I'm pretty sure I'm through with it. I was going to transfer all my addressbook contacts via HAND, since there is no real script to transfer from XML to what OZ uses as a format. I'd done a backup of my data before messing with OZ but OZ doesn't seem to see that backup....W.T.F.

So, I've lost all my contacts that I'd built up in the last three years. I may have a copy at the house in Texas but won't be able to confirm that until I visit in the next month or two.

Did I go to #zaurus on the irc.freenode.net server? or the Opie channel? No, of course not. If you've been to that server's #debian, you'd understand why I don't go to #zaurus or its OZ-equivalent channel. I'm not so much of an open-source geek that I'll put up with anal rantings about what I did or did not do and that my views of OZ are flawed. I've been as objective as possible in my views toward OZ but if the crap doesn't work the way Sharp's ROM does, then OZ isn't making the cut...not even close.

OK...I'm done ranting, but I'm through with OZ. I'm wiping that POS off my Zaurus and going back to the 'tried and true' Sharp ROM.
